Where authors get caught

Does any of this sound like you?

Most publishing problems are visible long before anyone realises what caused them. Here are three of the most common.

Your proof copy came back looking wrong.

Text creeping into the gutter, a cover that has shifted on the spine, page numbers in the wrong place. The fault is almost never where it shows up.

Your book is live, and nobody can find it.

Categories, keywords, series fields and Author Central decide whether Amazon ever shows your book to a reader. Most authors set them once, blind.

Nothing looks wrong — and that is the worry.

The expensive mistakes are the ones you do not know to look for: the wrong royalty tier, a print file that fails review the week you launch, keywords nobody is searching for.

Every fix in the kits began as a real problem an author reported publicly, traced back to its cause. The Risk Assessment tells you where you stand. The Fix Kits tell you what to do about it.

Diagnostic Fix Kits for Amazon KDP

Two kits, split by stage: before you publish, and after your book goes live. Each kit is built from an analysis of hundreds of problems publicly reported by independent authors.

01

The problem is reported

An author describes what has gone wrong, in their own words: a rejected file, a paperback that looks amateur, a listing nobody can find.

02

The cause is traced

The symptom is separated from the cause. The visible problem is rarely where the mistake was actually made.

03

The risk is weighed

How serious is it? Some problems will cost you sales. Others are cosmetic. Knowing the difference stops you from spending more money.

04

The fix is written

A step-by-step correction you can apply yourself, then indexed into the relevant Fix Kit so the next author finds it in seconds.

Real manuscripts. Published books.

These began as unpublished manuscripts. I worked with these authors, my mother amongst them, through the editorial, production, and Amazon KDP stages needed to bring them to publication.

A Business Raconteur Reveals All by Jean Pousson, published paperback and Kindle edition

I wrote my first book, and Wendy helped me get it published. She was fantastic, professional, always accessible, full of good ideas, and always willing to go the extra mile. Without her, it would still be an unpublished manuscript.

If At First by Shahid Chaudhri, published paperback and Kindle edition

Wendy was professional, patient, and exceptionally meticulous throughout the entire Amazon KDP publishing process. She read my manuscript cover to cover before touching a single file. I have already commissioned her to format and publish my next two books.

Horseshoe Bay by Winifred Rowland with Wendy J. Woodcock, published paperback and Kindle edition

We wrote it together, night after night, drawing on my own memories and experiences. Wendy then turned those words into a finished book, taking care of the formatting, the cover, and everything Amazon needed for publication. She handled the whole process and brought the story from our conversations all the way through to a published book.

About me

I’m Wendy Woodcock. I write and self-publish books, and help other authors do the same.

I have been through this process myself

I’ve self-published two books with my mother, Winifred Rowland — her memoir Horseshoe Bay and her WWII romance The Golden Dog Tag — so I have been through Kindle formatting, KDP, pricing, metadata, cover briefs and ISBNs myself.

Every manuscript is read cover to cover before edits begin. Based in Guernsey, working with authors internationally.

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Technology and Advanced Creative Writing from the Open University, and I am a Certified EU GDPR Practitioner, which matters when a memoir or non-fiction work involves real people and real data.

Before publishing I spent a working life in banking, as a technical translator in Italy and Switzerland, in software and hardware startups, and in trust and compliance roles — a translator’s ear for language, a technical background that makes KDP formatting straightforward, and a compliance officer’s habit of reading the small print.
